Why Lap Top Bags Are Necessary For Your Laptop

If you are traveling around like me, or are bringing your laptop to work, you need a good bag. It’s a pity to scratch your machine or even accidentally bang it, just because you didn’t want to invest in a proper bag. Lap top bags have a market of their own. Usually, when people want to get a laptop for the first time, they forget to include the bag cost.

A laptop is a sensitive machine, although computer engineers have made a great deal of progress in this area. For instance, some machines have no more moving parts. Nevertheless, the screen is always a sensitive issue.

There are several ways of protecting your life’s work, coming at different prices. Laptop sleeves cost some $20. You zip one around your notebook and put the whole thing in another bag or case. That is quite convenient, for instance, in an airport situation, where flying rules may prevent you from having more than one piece of carry-on luggage.

Laptop cases are something more sophisticated. They always have a handle, are a bit bulkier and can be a piece of luggage in their own right. A designer laptop case for ladies can be made of leather with all kinds of paraphernalia and can easily cost $200. Victorinox cases can easily top $400.

Some business people carry their laptops in their briefcases. Such a briefcase can cost over $100. Other people store their precious equipment in laptop backpacks, turn it on, attach a camera to their helmet and film everything while riding a bike. To top it off, they make it live.

Here’s a little bit of theory: whatever your preference, a laptop case needs to be padded - the thicker, the better. It is preferable to have a hard frame on the inside. This will give better protection in case of an accidental fall, for instance. The very fancy notebook covers have air vents and the entire enclosure allows for heat dissipating, while preventing dust from coming in. This is because often, while in a hurry, we close our laptop and put it in its case while it’s hot. This is not really a good practice, but it happens.

Also, a case has to open and close with reasonable ease, because our world is rather fast paced. You wouldn’t want to fumble around too much in front of an airport scanner or in the office of your manager..

Sometimes it’s helpful that your case is not so conspicuous. A fashion laptop case might look attractive, but it also attracts thieves.

For the nerds, you can get an actual mobile office - a case on wheels, with all kinds of pockets for wires, recharger, mobile printer and an extra “homemade” battery, if you want. This way you can be camping and computing at the same time.

Some hard cases are made of aluminum or titanium. Now that’s what I call protection!

There are a few good brands around. You can find lap top bags at Samsonite, Brenthaven, Solo, Baekgaard, Kailo Chic, BBP, Baggallini, Kenneth Cole, Travelpro, McKlein USA, Claire Chase, Clark & Mayfield, Victorinox and many others. Take good care of your laptop, please!
